USW Quarterly Newsletter, December 2013

Posted by | News | No Comments
Today, with the many brands we now build and service including Alerion, True North, C&C Yachts, J/Boats, North Rip, our customer base has a much broader spectrum of interests.

In the coming New Year we are working on delivering to you focused, useful, and entertaining (we hope) ‘newsletters’, we plan to distribute quarterly with each one focused on a particular brand and interests. This will help keep everyone posted on the highlights and happenings of the company as a whole.

Alerion 41 - winning, winning big

We all know that boats have a personality, that’s why we name them and refer to them as she. Our new Alerion 41 is built alongside new race boats; It turns out that the Alerion 41 must have a little competitive streak under all that beautiful wood work. She’s only been in the water a few months and has already garnered two impressive awards!

Judging her by her easy handling and performance under sail I wouldn’t bet against her on the race course either!

We could write a bunch of ad copy about how great our boat is, but it’s probably more effective for you to read what the independent experts think:
Santa says that Hull #10 is still available for spring delivery. Alerion Yachts

Welcome new C&C Dealers!

Team-building has been a big job this year. As we grow, we need to add people. More to the point, we need to add the RIGHT people. Building out our dealer network is part of this process. We don’t want good dealers, we don’t even want great dealers. We want the BEST dealers.
C&C One Design 30 build progress
The C&C 30 is moving along nicely. The deck plug is finished and the hull plug is planked and in final fairing. Molds can’t be far behind!

The first few boats will be racing at Charleston Race Week. Orders are coming in steadily, so if you want to go really, really fast this summer, you’d better get in line!
You can watch the progress of the 30 on the C&C 30 Facebook page. We are updating the photo album weekly. . No Virginia, the hull is not made of cold molded wood, just the plug!
Redline 41 to Bermuda

A good working rule for the Newport Bermuda race is: Don’t sail on a boat shorter than your age. The first C&C Redline 41 starts construction in January for a spring launch, with plenty of time to ramp up for the 2014 Bermuda Race. I think it’s useless to lie about my age, so some rule revision may be in order. I think this will be an awesome BDA ride, even at my advanced age!

Look for the Redline 41 this spring in Newport (and Bermuda) and this fall at the major boatshows.

True North 50 - Avionics go to sea

The True North 50 carries on the family lineage of combining classic downeast styling with luxury. With the 50, we are adding hi-tech to the mix as well. The Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit system is a marinized outgrowth of leading edge aircraft avionics.

The system collects and integrates all the shipboard information and centralizes it on a huge multi-touch display akin to a giant iPad. The amount of information centralized is staggering, it talks to the engine, the internet, the autopilot, radar, sonar and even your phone.. This level of integration allows the Volvo Penta Engine Vessel Control (EVC) system to perform some fairly nifty tricks: Dynamic Positioning, Adaptive Routing and push button docking to name a few.

This is only one of the really innovative ideas being built into the TN 50. We’ll keep you posted.

TN34 MKII - fresh eyes

As sailors, it’s really exciting to cross-pollinate our ideas with those of the powerboat team. As racers, we are always looking for better performance. There is a little push/pull but everyone agrees that it is producing some great ideas.

The True North MKII twin outboard is an example of this fresh eyes approach. We already told you how outboards have come a long way and now are lighter, quieter and more efficient than inboards.

When you add the new Optimus 360 Joystick Control System , you really have something. Basically, the system allows joystick control over the twin outboards. That means you can go forward, backward, SIDEWAYS and do a donut inside a boat length! Even Dunes and I will be able to dock her!
Even if you aren’t into powerboats, you should click the link and watch the video. What a world we live in. I need to rig this thing up in my van.
Ho, ho, hum- another year, more world champs…
All in all, 2013 was a pretty normal year for Waterline Systems. Our customers won their usual quota of World Championships, highlighted by wins in the J/24 and J/22 worlds.
J/Boat fleets are getting used to Waterline Systems customers winning everything, the mega-yacht J Class probably thought they were safe…. until Hanuman arrived with a shiny new WLS bottom and carted away all their silver.

“Ho hum, more world championships”, does sound a tad cocky. But, really for us, it is just an expectation. That is the level we strive to play at. Every time, on every boat.

Complete repair and restoration
While we are famous for championship winning sailboat prep, we have always done a brisk business for cruisers and powerboaters who demand the best. Between our Warren shop and our Brewer’s Cove Haven location, we can handle any job.

Sure, the weather outside is frightful, but we can still get your boat inside where it’s delightful.
Save the Date!

Our Open House has it roots way back in the Franklin Street shop days. Back then, it was a couple of pizzas, a couple cases of beer and we’d bring together some of the top J/24 guys and our customers to discuss how we would all improve over the winter.
It’s grown a bit.
It’s grown so much, we hardly know how to describe it. It’s a factory tour, so everyone can learn and see how yachts actually go together. It’s a mini boat show, you can meet and talk to some of the guys who design and build the gear you use. It’s a seminar series, with experts in a variety of fields teaching topics from racing rules to diesel mechanics.

In short, there is a LOT going on. The only thing that is the same is that it’s a chance to get our friends and customers together and improve our skills over the winter.

True North Yachts Announces The New TN34 MKII with Outboards – New for 2014

Posted by | News | No Comments

October 1, 2013. Warren, RI- True North Yachts, a Division of USWatercraft, LLC, is proud to announce the New True North 34 MKII twin outboard express with TN shoal draft performance. The TN34MKII is an exciting new departure from traditional “Downeast” propulsion systems. This product has been engineered to add to the joy of boating. This model is perfect for the shallow bays and waterways of the Chesapeake, the west coast of Florida, and Long Island’s skinny backwaters just to name a few. True North is really shaking up their competitive mix.

“We are continuously advancing, and proving that innovation and versatility make True North one of the most talked about and exciting yachts afloat. Scheduled to debut Spring 2014- we are extremely excited about expanding our market with the combination of the True North 34′s stunning lines and new four-stroke outboard efficiency and handling technology. This new model provides even more fun and ease of ownership that the True North brand is already known for.” Gregg Weatherby, USWatercraft- VP Sales and Marketing.

Imagine all of the style a True North offers while being propelled with four stroke efficiency, ease of maneuverability and maintenance, while navigating waters unreachable by most. The TN34MKII has more storage space onboard a perfect platform for stable and quiet running in the no wake zone, with extreme fuel efficiency delivering even more range and boating pleasure.

The new cockpit side door will make boarding at the dock a breeze. A bow thruster is still available but hardly required as the torque of twin outboards provides greater maneuverability. Owners can also order the joystick docking option- as available. Due to wide side decks the readily accessible roof of the pilothouse is a convenient place for canoes or kayaks, and there is additional stowage, where the inboard engine and associated systems used to reside.

Factory options are available, allowing owners to create a boat that is tailored to their individual tastes and requirements. We will work closely with you in designing and pricing your very own True North 34 MKII.
