Kind words from our guests:

“USW friends,

Thank you for the time you spent with me last week at the rendezvous and also in meetings on the following Monday. You did yourselves proud with the excellent program, the shop looked great as did the boats. I enjoyed both seminars I attended. The USW staff is a real asset, you have a team that would be the envy of anybody else in the industry.

We look forward to a long and profitable relationship going forward. Thanks again for the time and hospitality.”

“Thank you so much for inviting me to the Rendezvous. It was a terrific opportunity for me to meet everyone at the plant and talk to the experts. The seminars were invaluable and I always love seeing firsthand about how the boats are constructed. I am so glad C&C is back in the boat business. I owned a C&C 33 that we enjoyed for many years I look forward to my next trip to Warren.”

- Charles Marino

“Thanks for a very good and very useful show. One of the things I hadn’t anticipated were all the current owners who were so willing to share their ownership experiences.”

-David Czerniecki

“Just received the “Sail Newport” burgee you sent down from your raffle. Many thanks and I’ll fly it proudly in the pub room at my yacht club.

Thanks again (for both the event & the burgee) and the best of luck with your new company.”

This year USWatercraft Rendezvous landed on a beautiful Saturday, it was so sunny that we even believe that spring is coming! Our day was jam-packed with six wonderful speakers and eighteen key industry partners on display. We had around 400 visitors for the day. The day began with Cruising World’s Mark Pillsbury awarding, USW President Randy Borges with the 2014 Boat of the Year Award for the exquisite Alerion 41. Our guests experienced guided facility tours, watched the CNC machine cut the plug for the C&C 30 rudder, and they viewed both finished boats and boats in progress. Specifically, we displayed the award-winning Alerion 41 along with an Alerion 20, 28, and 33. There was both a True North 34 and 38 under construction and a completed TN 38 on display. We showed off the brand new C&C 30 and the Redline 41, both still under construction, but well on their way to completion. Additionally, we also displayed a J/100 in production and our newest J/24: Blind Squirrel – rumors are she is making a comeback!

Andrew Burton

This year we managed to wrangle in some fantastic speakers to appeal to our various customers, guests, and friends. Our first seminar was with experienced sailing expert, Andrew Burton from Andrew Burton Yacht Services to discuss offshore passage making. Andrew has logged over 300,000 sea miles aboard yachts and commercial craft; he reviewed what to discuss when sailing offshore and being mentally prepared for sea.

Joel Rumelhart

Next up was Joel Rumelhart from Power Products, our New England Volvo Penta Marine Power Center. Joel discussed the new Volvo IPS technology and the glass cockpit system as it pertains to the new True North 50.

David Winskowicz

Following Joel, we had David Winskowicz & Mike Alfano from Mack Boring/ Yanmar. Together, they presented on the latest in diesel technology for sailboats as well as powerboats and covered the maintenance and daily care of marine engines.

Tom Degremont & Sam Howell

The afternoon sessions were as equally well attended as the morning sessions. Tom Degremont and Sam Howell from Langan Design Partners kicked off the afternoon to discuss all things considered when designing a luxury power yacht, including how to maintain the integrity of modern design while staying true to the brand’s identity. In this presentation, they updated the crowd on the current status of the new True North 50.

Rob Mazza

Rob Mazza

Our next speakers certainly traveled the furthest to attend our event. We are fortunate to have had both Rob Mazza and Mark Mills speak about the history of C&C Yachts, past and present. Rob Mazza, of the original C&C Design Group drove down from Ontario, Canada to visit us, and Mark Mills, current C&C designer, made his way across the Atlantic all the way from Ireland. Both designers discussed the evolution of C&C Yachts over the years, leading to its recent modern incarnation.

Mark Mills

They spoke about what made C&C Yachts a success in past sailing markets, and how those same qualities are equally successful for C&C in the 21st Century.

Charlie Enright

Charlie Enright

The grand finale of the presentations was local sailor, Charlie Enright, to discuss his future as the youngest skipper for the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race on Team Alvimedica. Charlie began his offshore career aboard Disney’s sponsored TP52 Morning Light. Now at age 29, he faces his next challenge racing around the world. In this seminar, Charlie discussed the race, the boats, and how the crew has gotten to this stage as the youngest team to contend in the event.

Many thanks to all of our guests, and to our phenomenal speakers and to our reliable industry partners. Please come again next year! All photo credits to John Cratin Photography.

High Performance, Sensible Price: C&C 30

Posted by | News | No Comments

If you have ever been curious about all things taken into consideration when designing and building a race boat, then please read the newest C&C 30 Seahorse article featured in the April 2014 issue. This article discusses rating rules, being competitive in an HPR fleet, and technological details such as sail flow, drag, aero lift, and hydro lift. Let’s not forget being fun, fast, and affordable.

This boat would not exist without Mark Mills’ exquisite design in coordination with KND Sailing Performance’s CFD analysis and the use of North Marine Group’s Virtual Wind Tunnel. Combined with Mills’ own in-house programs, these powerful analytic tools allowed detailed research and analysis of various design paths to develop quickly and efficiently. Read about it here: High Performance… Sensible Price.

2014 True North 38 Heritage Model

Posted by | News | No Comments

smth38USWatercraft, LLC is proud to announce that hull #120 of the TRUE NORTH 38 HERITAGE Models is under construction.

This is the most advanced TRUE NORTH 38 built to date.

The new hull lamination schedule provides a strong, quiet ride. The infused longitudinal stringer system stiffens the hull, creating a powerful entry and smooth exit through the water.

Many improvements have been made to the interior joinery of the TRUE NORTH 38 HERITAGE. The yacht carpenters have replaced the doorway to the v-berth with a beautiful louvered teak door. They have changed the plastic overhead hatch trims to hand crafted solid teak trim that creates an elegant new appearance. The drawer system has been upgraded in two ways. The typical lap joint corners have been changed to exquisite dovetail joints and the slide mechanisms have been upgraded for better functionality. All drawer and door units are now trimmed with solid teak frames. The galley counter top surfaces are made of stain resistant Avonite, a scratch resistant high solids material.

The new cockpit seating configuration and cushion design makes the cockpit more spacious with greater comfort.

Now, for the first time in the production of the TRUE NORTH 38 HERITAGE, a WATERLINE SYSTEMS performance hull bottom finish will be applied, providing greater fuel economy and speed.

Follow her progress on the True North Facebook page under the TN38 Heritage Album.

OPTIMUS 360: EXCEPTIONAL FEEL AND CONTROL AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

True North announced today that they have selected the new Optimus 360 Joystick Control to be used in the new Outboard Express. We are very excited to offer such an intuitive steering system on the new TN34MKII. The Optimus 360 system enhances the joy of ownership and ease of operation.

“As the USWatercraft design team develops new products, we seek out like-minded partners and target those with proven “best engineering” practices. Such clearly defined processes methodically lowers warranty, and results in less down time for repairs during the yachting season. SeaStar Solutions, the parent company of Optimus 360, will be a great fit.”- Gregg Weatherby, USWatercraft, VP Sales and Marketing.

OPTIMUS 360: JOYSTICK CONTROL FOR ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED TWIN ENGINES

The Optimus 360 system is a culmination of 3 progressive subsystems: Optimus Electronic Power Steering System, Optimus Electronic Shift/Throttle System, and the Optimus 360 Joystick Control System. This advanced combination allows for 360 degrees of manueverability while docking, or navigating through congested waterways or bays. With the Optimus 360 Joystick, the boat can move forward, backward, diagonally, sideways and can rotate on it’s own axis.

“USWatercraft has always taken pride in providing the best steering available to their customers, giving them a pleasurable and safe boating experience,” said Chris Conard, National Sales Manager-OEM for SeaStar Solutions. “We appreciate their confidence in our new Optimus 360 Joystick Docking system. Their customers will be thrilled with the performance.”
